On Feb 27-28-29th a bus load of our retired members escaped our Toronto winter and enjoyed a 3 day 2 night trip to Niagara Falls for a Dinner/Show stay at the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel. The dinner theatre “I love you, your prefect, now change” was excellent and the only complaint was that the trip was too short. Everyone is looking forward to our summer social schedule.
We are trying a different set up to our meeting room in the hope of serving our members better, only time will tell.
A notice of motion to change the retirees club bylaws was read out for information. This bylaw would increase the honorariums from $25. to $50. per monthly meeting for the club President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. The remaining executive board members still will receive $25. per monthly meeting.
The local union Health & Safety committee has set up a number of clinics that may interest retirees, a foot clinic-April 12th and a pain clinic April 26th. Contact our office.
Two new members were introduced and welcomed, Norm Rowland and Alfredo Pirro.
The club was saddened by the passing of the following members, Frank Jerries-65 years old, Terrance Adam-63 years old, Gary Pinder-62 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with their friends and family.
March birthdays were celebrated by Margaret Dunn, Josie Novak, Franz Dietz and Bill Severin.
Anniversary congratulations went out to Jim and Margaret Dunn-56 years, Joe and Jean Penny-54 years, Jack and Marlene Reiter-48 years.
The 50/50 door draw of $45.25 each was won by Wolfgang Skerath and Martin DeGraauw.
Our book lending library is up and running with a new book cart, our members seem to be making use of it.
An article has been submitted to the IBEW Journal and I understand that it has been accepted, look for it in next edition.
Ron Carroll reminded everyone that 2008 is an election year for our club and everyone should be putting some thought into nominating candidates that will continue to make this club interesting and strong.
