As mentioned in last months news letter, Larry Priestman has resigned as president of our club, after over 10 years of involvement. Ron Carroll has taken over as president until our elections in June 2008
Problems continue to plague the organizers of the Toronto area CURC Council(Congress of Union Retirees of Canada),meeting dates conflict, snow storms etc. Hopefully this will be accomplished Tuesday February 26th 2008. Our executive has given a 1 year mandate to see if we fit this organization.
At our March 4th meeting, we hope to have information and discussion on who may qualify for “disability tax credits” WE have a CD from Kitchener and the forms to review.
A bus load of our members will be enjoying a 3 day – 2 night trip to Niagara Falls for a Dinner/Show, staying at the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel Feb 26-29/2008. Other trips are in the planning stage for Hamilton, Peterboro Lift Lock and Penatang etc.
Only one new member was introduced this month, Ron Hart.
Our thoughts are with Shirley Mallett who is recovering from surgery.
The club is saddened by the passing of the following members, Lorne Brennan-84 years old, Frank Woodhead-81 years old, Dennis Barker-78 years old, Alvin Davis-77 years old and Elio Muzzin-65 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with their friends and family.
February birthdays were celebrated by John Cameron, Gary Brooking, Don Mallett and Robert Dembicky.
Anniversary congratulations went to Gordon and Sylvia Robinson, 25 years and Larry and Hazel Little, 22 years.
The 50/50 door draw of $42 each was won by Arlene DeGraauw and John Wapshott We also raffled off 2 retiree shirts won by Livia Kangsepp and Helmuth Krohn.
Reminder: Our club is starting a lending library of books in good condition. We hope to have a mobile rack for next meeting.
