On Saturday November 24th 2007 over 575 retired members and guests attended and enjoyed this year’s Christmas dinner/dance and service pin presentation.
This year Local 353 honoured 1-70 year member, Bill Hardy (unable to attend), 1-65 year member, Don Craik, 35-60 year members, 52-50 year members.for their contributions and years of service. Murray Travis was presented his watch at our November luncheon as he was leaving for Florida. This brings our over 50 years of service honour roll to over 333 living members. Congratulations to all.
This event completed the 2007 calendar and our Treasurer is presently preparing the club’s 2008 budget for trips/ shows/ buses/events for approval by the trustees. REMINDER NO MONTHLY LUNCHEON MEETING IN DECEMBER
The money collected on our Oktoberfest trip, $127.00, was donated to the “Daily Food Bank”, hopefully making others lives a little less stressful. Each event that is offered to our retired members at no cost will have a collection for charity.
As of September 2007, local 353 retires club has affiliated with CURC (Congress of Union Retirees of Canada) and a Toronto Area Council is being set up. Time will tell if this is a worth while endeavour.
The social committee is working on a 3 day/2 night trip to Niagara Falls for Feb 2008.
Bill Agopian was welcomed as a new member, brother Bob Barker is home with a terrible cold and Jim Leebody is resting at home again.
Our club is saddened by the passing of the following members, Anthony Burns-89 years old, Ervino Segna-77 years old, Renzo Magagna-63 years old, Rolf Hoffman-62 years old, our thoughts are with their friends and families.
Again this year our club has donated $250.00 to the Legion Poppy Fund.
November Birthdays were celebrated by Stefania Czapla, Barbara Jamieson, Hugh Martin, Kalman Csupor and Larry Little.
Bill and Josie Severin received congratulations on their 52 years of marriage.
Our local has started a new practice of honouring our deceased members for service to our membership. A plaque with the first 2 names, Dave Livermore, retirees executive board member deceased, Steve Milne, past Business Representative, will be hung in the hall.
The 50/50 door prize of $50. each was won by Stefania Czapla and Doug Hutchinson. Doug donated his $50. back to the club.
