20 YEARS OF SERVICE
To Our Retired Members
October 2007
Our final trip of this wonderful year 2007, took place Oct 11th , to Kitchener, as guests of Local 804 Retirees Club. The weather man sort of co-operated but everyone still had a great time. The show, music, food and refreshments were all complimented by the welcome of the 804 members.
Our club now enjoys reciprocal functions with 3 other locals, Hamilton, St Catherines and now Kitchener. I have heard rumours that Barrie and Oshawa are interested in joining in on the fun. We of course have for years invited Hamilton, St Catherines, Kitchener, Barrie, Oshawa, London and a few times a couple have come from Ottawa local 586 to our annual Christmas Dinner/Dance which will be the final event for 2007.
The next event for our retirees will be the Remembrance Day Ceremony at our hall Sunday Nov 11th 10 AM with a luncheon to follow.
At our Nov 6th meeting there will be a report from Bob Rynyk and Bill Slaght about the CURC convention held in Ottawa and their objectives.
Brother Jim Leebody is home again from hospital and brother Barry Earls wife is recovering from knee surgery.
Our club is saddened by the passing of the following members Evald Gering-89 years old and Dave Livermore-72 years old. We at local 353 did not realize how special a person Dave really was, not only was he a member of the retirees executive board for many years, played the bag pipes for our Remembrance Day services, active in our labour day parades, active in his community and church and also his power boat club. He will be missed by his family, our union and our retirees club.
A motion was passed at this meeting that our club will now collect $5.00 per couple for bus trips that cost our members nothing. This money will be donated to the food bank or charity in the retirees club name.
October birthdays were celebrated by Larry Priestman and Doug Dale.
The 50/50 door prize draw of $44.50 was won by Shirley Livermore and Plinio Iannarelli
See you at our Nov 6th meeting
Reminder – No meeting in December due to our Christmas Dinner/Dance Nov 24th |
