To Our Retired Members
March 2007
As our weather improves and the temperature rises, so does the attendance to our monthly meetings and luncheon. We presently exceed 100 in attendance and the best weather is yet to come.
While many of our members come out of hibernation or return from the south, our executive board has been busy with the entertainment coordinator, setting up trips and tours for 2007. More to follow in our entertainment report.
On April 1st, our local will vote on proposals for pension, health and welfare and whether to rent or buy a west end building for additional training. The building next door (the chicken shack) has been renovated for training space also and will be ready for use shortly. We will have more information next month.
The updated retiree’s computer course in the locals newly renovated computer lab is under way using windows XP. Retiree , John Scott, our instructor has 12 trainees.
The financial status of our club remains healthy and local 353 continues to fund our endeavours with the increased man hours paying into the Sports, Entertainment and Retirees Trust Fund. And the future looks even better.
Four new members were welcomed by our club this month, Lipton Drummond, Ed Kocum, Bob Nicolaou and Jack Reiter.
The following members are recovering , Sheldon Marins had a knee operation, Don Mallett had surgery, Jim Leebody is at home and Joe Beckett from Gall blatter surgery.
Our club is saddened by the passing of the following members, Heinz Mueller-76 years old, Frederic Brennan- 79 years old, Robert Sparkes-72 years old, our thoughts are with their friends and families.
The following are some of the trips planned for 2007, Thurs March 22 trip to Woodbine Race track Slots/Trots/Dinner, Sun May 6th a bus load of retirees will help Hamilton local 105 retirees celebrate their 25th anniversary, Tues June 12th trip to Walter’s Family Dinner Theatre, Tues July 3rd our clubs 21st anniversary luncheon, Aug 23rd an evening dinner/show at Carmen’s in Hamilton, Sept 5-6 an over night trip to Niagara Falls to see the show “Oh Canada Eh” then off to St. Jacob’s market. We also have been invited to Kitchener’s Octoberfest, dates to be announced later if there is interest.
March birthdays were celebrated by Margaret Dunn, Bill Severin and Franz Dietz.
Anniversary congratulations go to Jim and Margaret Dunn 55 years and Jack and Marlene Reiter 47 years.
This months 50/50 door draw of $43 each was won by two executive board members, Margaret Reynolds and Ron Carroll.
