20 YEARS OF SERVICE
To Our Retired Members
January 2007
Welcome to all our present members and newbies to our new news letter site location.
Local 353’s web committee spent many hours redesigning and upgrading this new site which gives everyone access to all facets of our Local Union’s evolvements and activities. I am our Local Union’s webmaster would appreciate your comments.
Our first meeting of 2007 held Jan 2nd 2007 at our hall was well attended with the co-operation of the weatherman.
Our president, Larry Priestman reported that 2006 was an exceptional year for trips, shows and of course our annual Christmas Dinner/Dance which is still receiving praise from members and guests including District One Vice President Phil Flemming in his November/December, “Coast to Coast” news letter. Access www.ibew1st.org
We will be sending copies of the photos of members receiving pin awards at the Christmas Dinner/Dance as soon as they are available.
The 4 members of our Retirees club that assisted the IBEW Construction Council of Ontario (CCO) in conducting and tabulating the mail in vote, have been and are to be congratulated for the precise and professional job they carried out on behalf of all the IBEW Locals in the Province of Ontario. They are Bill Slaght, Bill Severn, Gerry Jurgeneit and Robert Rynyk. Another example of retirees performing a useful service to the benefit of the IBEW membership.
Last year the Retirees club decided that the thanks we publish in our news letter and the Christmas gifts to the office staff was far too little of acknowledgement for all the efforts and support that this club receives and has received from all the officers and staff and building support staff, so an “Appreciation Night” was planned for Dec 2006, unfortunately the event chosen for that date was changed to Jan 2007. The executive of Local 353 Retirees Club had the pleasure of taking a bus load of those appreciated people and their spouses to a Dinner/Show at “Carmen’s” in Hamilton. Other than the 4 hour, icy road bus ride, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we hope this will help show how much their efforts for this clubs members are appreciated.
We are saddened by the passing of the following members. Robert J Brown- 74 years old, Norman Smith- 80 years old, Herbert Rothwell-81 years old, Kenneth Howard- 81 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families.
The following members received birthday congratulations, Maggie Atanasoff, Shirley Mallett, Helen Singleton and John Hallam.
George and June Campbell were congratulated on their 61 years of marriage.
This months 50/50 draw of $30 each was won by Anita Ackroyd and new member Steward Jamieson. Also 2 Retiree golf shirts were won by Jim Leebody and Gerry Desroches.
Trips and shows are still in the planning stage, we will keep you posted.
