IBEW Local Union 353 has a Unit for
Outside Workers who want to represent your future.
What is the Local Union 353 IBEW Outside Workers Unit?
International Vice President Phil Flemming of the IBEW has given the approval for Local Union 353 to have a Unit for the Outside Workers to have the following:
You will:
- Elect your own officers and Executive Board members for the unit
- Hold monthly meetings to discuss the issues in your sector
- Conduct your negotiations with the employer
Who will Local Union 353 IBEW Outside Workers Unit represent?
Journeyman Lineman; Apprentice Lineman; Utilityman; Groundman; Groundman Drivers; Groundman Equipment Operators; Cable Splicers; Station Electricians and Foresters.
By joining the Local 353 IBEW Outside Workers Unit you will:
- Become a member of Local Union 353 IBEW Outside Workers Unit.
- You will keep your seniority as it is now.
- Apprenticeship Training will be done fairly.
- You will have access to employment with Outside Contractors.
- We will endeavor to get back the Rural Assistance work and Corporate projects that we used to do.
- You will have the same provincial mobility you have now.
- Have your own independent Hiring Hall.
- Room and Board is $91.35 per day.
- Mileage is .44 cents per kilometer.
- You will have access to all Outside IBEW Local Unions.
- Contractors and Utilities in Canada and the USA.
We believe that Hydro One will be contracting out more work in the future. This includes Transmission Lines and Station work. They have been doing this the last few years and are in the process of contracting out the 500 KV Line from Bruce to Milton.
Local Union 353 IBEW Outside Workers working for Outside Line Contractors will be receiving a $3.40 increase on May 1, 2008.
We believe if all outside workers were to join the Local Union 353 IBEW Outside Workers Unit we would be able to have the same wages for all members.
